Children’s Day Surprise: A Story of Celebration and Kindness
In a small town called Dewas, Children’s Day was just around the corner, and Riya and her friends were buzzing with excitement. They’d heard that the school would have special events, games, and treats to celebrate the day, but they weren’t sure why this day was so special.
At breakfast, Riya asked her grandfather, “Dadaji, why do we celebrate Children’s Day?”
Her grandfather smiled, happy to share the story. “Well, Riya, Children’s Day is celebrated on November 14th every year, on the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. Nehru Ji loved children very much, and they lovingly called him ‘Chacha Nehru.’ He believed that children are the foundation of the nation, and he wanted every child to have the best opportunities to grow and learn. That’s why, to honor him and to show love for children, we celebrate this day as Children’s Day.”
Riya was delighted. “So, it’s like a day just for us kids?”
“Yes!” Dadaji chuckled. “It’s a day to remember that every child deserves love, education, and respect.”
That day at school, Riya’s teacher told the class they’d be having a Children’s Day fair with games, music, and food stalls. Everyone cheered and couldn’t wait to join in the fun. As the celebration kicked off, Riya and her friends played ring toss, won prizes, and even got to have a dance-off! But in the middle of all the excitement, Riya noticed a small boy standing outside the school fence, watching longingly.
Riya recognized him; his name was Arjun, and he was from a nearby neighborhood. Arjun wasn’t a student at their school, but he often helped his father with odd jobs to earn money for his family. Seeing Arjun standing there, Riya felt a pang of sadness. She quickly ran to her teacher and asked, “Ma’am, can we invite Arjun to join the celebration? He looks like he wants to be a part of it, too.”
The teacher smiled, touched by Riya’s thoughtfulness. “Of course, Riya. Children’s Day is for all children!”
Riya and her friends ran to Arjun and invited him to join. At first, Arjun was shy and unsure, but with some gentle encouragement, he joined them. The other students welcomed him warmly, sharing their snacks and inviting him to play games. Arjun’s face lit up with joy, and he joined in the laughter, feeling like he truly belonged.
Question: How do you think Arjun felt when Riya and her friends invited him to the celebration?
As the day went on, Arjun and Riya’s friendship blossomed. Riya’s teacher even gifted Arjun with a small Children’s Day badge, making him feel special. Later, Arjun whispered to Riya, “Thank you for letting me join. This is the best day ever.”
Riya hugged her new friend and replied, “Everyone deserves to feel special on Children’s Day.”
When Riya returned home and told Dadaji about Arjun, he smiled with pride. “You’ve shown the true spirit of Children’s Day, Riya. Pandit Nehru would have been proud to know you.”
Moral: Children’s Day is not just a day for celebration but a reminder of kindness, equality, and friendship. Every child deserves love, respect, and a chance to be part of the joy.
